The third annual Bliss Users Conference
took place on Wednesday, November 13, 1996. Again it was a wonderful time for many Bliss
users to come to renew friendships and discuss issues. Paul Marshall opened the
conference, talking about the importance of building a good foundation and the vital need
to maintain services. Following Paul's opening remarks, Shirley McNaughton shared some of
her thesis research with the group. The group learned there is different levels of reading
in regards of Bliss Users. Over lunch, we had time to renew relationships and make new
ones. After lunch Ann Running and her mom (Miriam) chaired the afternoon session as we
remembered the Biennial Meeting of BCI Affiliates and the International Society for
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (ISAAC). We also shared throughout the day some
steps, to make Blissymbolics better known in our community. The Bliss User Conference is
no doubt a highlight for many throughout the year, to look forward to and reflect back on.
After the Bliss User Conference, it was time for more partying at our Friends of Bliss Evening. Dr. Peter Lindsay chaired the evening, with a good part of the night updating people on BCI's progress on our Blissinternet project and our Home Page. The night finished with Shirley playing Take the Time (written by Kari Harrington and put to music by Nancy Gibbons) along with many singing. A day filled with all kinds of learning and enjoyment was shared by everybody!
