Blissymbolics is a symbolic, graphical language that is currently composed of close to 4 500  authorized symbols - or Blisswords. Bliss characters are semantically based and can be combined and recombined in endless ways to create new Blisswords. Blisswords can in turn be sequenced to form many types of sentences, and express many grammatical capabilities. Simple shapes are used to keep the symbols easy and fast to draw. 
The BCI Authorized Vocabulary - BCI-AV - represents the latest set of formally approved Blissymbols that appears in Bliss dictionaries.

Blissymbolics Communication International (BCI) is a non-profit, charitable organization that has the perpetual, worldwide, exclusive license for the use and publication of Blissymbols for persons with communication, language, and learning difficulties. BCI provides leadership world-wide in the development of the system of Blissymbolics and in its use by persons with severe speech and physical impairments.

Blissymbols are free to use for personal needs and in "free" distribution and services.

BCI is geographically on the move

- from its original home until now in Canada to a new home base in Sweden and Scandinavia.
This has resulted in some delays regarding our planned services via this website, but will hopefully soon open up new opportunities when our new organisation matters are settled during spring 2011.
