Blissymbolics is a symbolic, graphical language that is currently composed of close to 4 500  authorized symbols - or Blisswords. Bliss characters are semantically based and can be combined and recombined in endless ways to create new Blisswords. Blisswords can in turn be sequenced to form many types of sentences, and express many grammatical capabilities. Simple shapes are used to keep the symbols easy and fast to draw. 
The BCI Authorized Vocabulary - BCI-AV - represents the latest set of formally approved Blissymbols that appears in Bliss dictionaries.

Blissymbolics Communication International (BCI) is a non-profit, charitable organization that has the perpetual, worldwide, exclusive license for the use and publication of Blissymbols for persons with communication, language, and learning difficulties. BCI provides leadership world-wide in the development of the system of Blissymbolics and in its use by persons with severe speech and physical impairments.

Blissymbols are free to use for personal needs and in "free" distribution and services.

Why should you become a Subscribed Member (when this part of the site opens)?

The present site provides much information about Blissymbolics and its applications.  It is totally open to the public.  One segment of this site however is open only to Subscribed Members.  Register to become a Subscribed Member by selecting the menu item to the left labelled - Log in / Register.
You should become a Subscribed Member:  

• To support the development and application of Blissymbolics for people who need it around the world
• To become aware of and, if you wish, get involved in ongoing discussions and projects associated with the latest developments of Blissymbolics
• To gain free access to the most up-to-date official Bliss vocabulary contained in the BCI-Authorized Vocabulary
• To gain knowledge of and access to the latest lessons and educational materials related to using Blissymbolics to teach communication and literacy to non-speaking individuals
